United States Patent Office Awards Second Design Patent to Creatherm

Indianapolis, IN - February 2009 - CreathermTM , announces the receipt of their second United States Design Patent (D587,358) on their "Walk-It-In" radiant floor panels.

The Radiant Floor Panels which are ideal for installing PEX hydronic tubing with considerable time savings.

The S45 floor panel is 2’ x 4’ x 2.8” thick and features a staggered snap-tight grid for optimal tubing spacing. On-center points exist every three inches. The S45 Floor Panel can support the installation of ½”, 5/8” or 3/4” PEX Tubing. This newer panel does not support installing tubing at 45 degree angles but offers greater “R” Value due to its thickness. This makes the product ideal for colder climates or new construction.

CreathermTM Radiant floor panels are now manufactured out of BASF Styropor® EPS. Styropor® an expandable polystyrene (EPS) was invented by BASF in 1952 and today is a classic among the raw materials employed for cost-effective construction, as well as efficient and reliable packaging. The most important properties of Styropor® EPS include: excellent thermal insulation capacity, high compressive strength, outstanding impact absorption, low weight, and flexible design capabilities. The foam panels are also quiet, resistant to insects and mold, and virtually allergen free.

Headquarted in Indianapolis, Ind., Creatherm TM offers expanded polystyrene foam products to the building industry. Building on a design alliance with Createc Corporation, manufacturers of ICF panels, Creatherm's Radiant Floor Panels were their first product to reach market.

Creatherm TM is a proud member of the Radiant Panel Association & USGBC.

Going Green with Radiant Floor Heat

With its energy efficiency and clean draft-free heat, concrete radiant floor heating offers numerous environmental benefits.

Here are some of them:

*Less energy required to achieve better thermal comfort at a lower thermostat setting.

*Water has 3,500 times the energy transport capacity of air.

*Adaptable to various energy-efficient heat sources, such as solar and geothermal.
*Improved indoor air quality.

*Radiant systems that use PEX tubing vs. copper pipe expedite hot water delivery and reduce water waste.

*The walls of PEX tubing provide better insulation than copper.

*Reduces building materials required for concealing ductwork and compensating ceiling heights.

*Provides more usable area, which allows for smaller spaces without sacrificing livability.

In-floor radiant heating can also help contribute to green building points under two recently introduced national programs: LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for Homes (see A National Certification Program for Green Homes) and the National Association of Home Builders Green Building Program.

The Radiant Panel Association worked with NAHB in developing its green home building guidelines, which were released in 2005. The RPA Guidelines for the Installation of Radiant Panel Heating and Snow/Ice Systems (available through the RPA bookstore) is included as a recognized design reference for earning green building points. In addition, builders can earn points for using an RPA-certified technician to install the system.

Production Begins On New Creatherm T45 Radiant Floor Panel

Whitestown, IN – The third panel from Creatherm TM is ready for market and combines benefits of its first two radiant floor panels into one product.

The T45 Floor Panel is a one-inch thinner version of the S45 Floor Panel. The lower height profile makes the snap-tight grid ideal for over-pour or retro fit applications where a thicker panel cannot always be used.

The T45 Floor Panel is 2’ x 4’ x 1.8” thick and features a staggered snap-tight grid for optimal tubing spacing.

On-center points exist every three inches. The T45 Floor Panel can support the installation of 1/2”, 5/8” or 3/4” PEX Tubing.

The new panel will be manufactured at existing Creatherm production facilities as well as Aptco, LLC on the West Coast. Customers now have the ability to split orders between the S45 and T45 by bundle quantity.

All Creatherm TM radiant floor panels are manufactured out of BASF Styropor® EPS.
